![]() You didn't necessarily have to play ear-splitting loud to sound good, but loud enough that ear plugs are highly recommended. Produced in the proverbial sweet spot for late 70s Master Model JMPs, this 2204 features cascading preamp gain and the kind of rich, muscly, ripping textures. The only thing I can say for certain is that these amps are not bedroom-friendly in terms of volume. The 2204 was a 50 watt head and the 2104 was a 50 watt 2x12 combo. These amps have a sound like non other and are some of the most coveted master volume. There was no rhyme, reason, or apparent trend from year to year so I'd guess the differences were down to component tolerances and aging as all of the amps were at least 20 years old when I played them. Clean and mean 1978 Marshall JMP 2204 50 watt master volume head. I have played a bunch with the 2nd circuit from '77-'81 with JMP badge and '81-'84 with JCM800 branding and they were all generally good but different. Marshall JMP 2204 (1978 vs 1979) Rockett R Rockett Member Messages 414 1 Anyone know if there is a difference between the 19 JMP2204 (50 watt) I know in 76-early 77 they were non cascaded but I was wondering how many changes occurred up until the JCM 800 started after mid 1977. I've never seen a JMP MV older than '77, so can neither confirm nor deny that's true. Was introduced in 1975 and it reportedly didn't sound very good. The original circuit with actual had high and low sensitivity inputs In 1976, AC/DC launched the international version of the High Voltage album, wich actually was a mix of songs from the Australian High Voltage and TNT. ![]() I've never played a horizontal-input JCM800 that I liked, but YMMV.Ĭeriatone's amp is probably based on the second JMP Master Volume circuit which was introduced sometime in 1976. 1984 MARSHALL JCM 800 2204 50 WATT MASTER VOLUME RARE VINTAGE HEAVY ROCK. ![]() The '85 circuit change coincides with the change from vertical to horizontal inputs, board-mounted pots and jacks, EL-34s instead of 6550 tubes in the US, and reduced power supply filtering in the 2203 at least (not sure about the 2204). Is that the JMP or the JCM800 version of the 2204 circuit (perhaps a stupid question since the title says JCM800)? My understanding is the two are slightly different. The circuits of the post-'76 JMP and pre-'85 JCM800 Master Models are almost identical.
